Colors of the Rainbow: Orange and Yellow!

Carrots

The colors orange and yellow can mean a lot of things in fruits and vegetables. The good news is these have lots of antioxidants. Do you remember what that word means? Antioxidants help heal the damage that oxygen does in our body. Vitamin C is actually a type of antioxidant and it is really high in citrus fruits!

When a fruit or veggie is not a citrus fruit and has an orange color, it means it’s probably high in beta carotene too. When we eat beta carotene, our bodies turn it into Vitamin A. This is an important vitamin for eye sight. That’s why some people joke that eating carrots will make you see better! Vitamin A also helps your cells divide so it’s great for your body organs and skin too.

Which orange and yellow fruits and veggies can you think of? Maybe oranges, papaya, persimmon, pineapple, peaches, squash, carrots, pumpkin and peppers? Tell me what your favorite is! Mine is mango!
